Why Compost Local?
Posted: March 3, 2011 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a comment »Compost local. What does it matter whether you compost locally or afar? I think it matters a lot. It’s more than creating arable land and reducing your carbon footprint. I think it’s about creating a living ecosystem. When you decide an apple core is no longer garbage, that’s a paradigm shift and that’s when you put yourself inside of an ecosystem, a local ecosystem, YOUR ecosystem.
So how do YOU compost local? Do you compost everything? Meat, dairy, and oil scraps? Do you collect food scraps when you’re out on the town for dinner?? What happens to grapefruit rinds after brunch or the lime rinds after tequila shots?? Mine end up in my pockets, brought home along with all the other scraps from the day.
